DNS+ configures a system-wide encrypted DNS resolver on your iPhone using Apple’s built-in DNS Settings (DNS-over-HTTPS). Choose Standard or Family protection, enable it once in iPhone Settings, then switch modes anytime from the app.
How to activate DNS+
You only need to enable DNS+ once in iPhone Settings.
- Open DNS+.
- Choose Standard or Family.
- Tap Set Up Protection.
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Go to General > VPN & Device Management > DNS.
- Select DNS+.
- Return to DNS+ — it will show Protected.
After this one-time step, you can switch between Standard and Family directly in the app without visiting Settings again.
Standard Protection
Standard mode blocks advertising and tracking domains using AdGuard Public DNS over encrypted DNS-over-HTTPS. It works across supported apps and browsers on your iPhone.
Family Protection
Family mode adds filtering of adult-content domains and enables Safe Search where supported, in addition to blocking ads and trackers. DNS filtering has technical limitations and is not a replacement for parental supervision.
Troubleshooting
The app shows “One more step”
Your DNS configuration is saved but not yet enabled. Go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management > DNS and select DNS+, then return to the app.
It’s not showing “Protected”
Make sure DNS+ (not “Automatic” or another provider) is the selected DNS in iPhone Settings. Reopen the app to refresh its status.
A website or app isn’t working
DNS filtering can occasionally affect a domain. Try switching from Family to Standard, or temporarily set iPhone DNS back to Automatic in Settings to compare.
Changed modes but nothing happened
Switching Standard/Family updates the same configuration instantly. If protection was disabled in Settings, re-enable DNS+ there once.
How to remove the DNS configuration
Open DNS+ > Settings > Remove DNS Configuration and confirm. This removes DNS+ from your iPhone’s DNS settings and turns protection off. You can also switch DNS back to Automatic in Settings > General > VPN & Device Management > DNS.

DNS requests are resolved by AdGuard Public DNS. DNS+ is an independent app and is not affiliated with AdGuard.
